Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak praises Brock Bowers after his two-touchdown performance against the New York Jets, his reliability.
Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak has grown so accustomed to Brock Bowers making difficult catches that he barely reacts anymore. Following the Raiders’ thrilling 38-33 victory over the New York Jets, Kubiak admitted there’s only one thing about his star tight end that still catches him off guard.
Bowers delivered another impressive performance Sunday, catching seven passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. His contributions helped Las Vegas overcome a nine-point deficit and snap its four-game losing streak.
“It surprises me when he doesn’t catch it,” Kubiak said after the game, according to Raiders reporter Levi Edwards.
The remark reflected just how dependable Bowers has become in the Raiders’ passing attack. Through six appearances this season, the tight end has recorded at least 70 receiving yards in every game.
His impact was immediate against New York. Bowers caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins on Las Vegas’ opening possession, helping the Raiders take an early lead.
He added another touchdown after halftime as the Raiders worked their way back into contention. His seven receptions also helped Cousins finish with 247 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Bowers reached another milestone during the victory, surpassing Hall of Fame tight end Mike Ditka for the most receiving yards by a non-wide receiver through his first 35 NFL games.
The performance reinforced his importance to an offense that has relied heavily on its tight ends this season.
Michael Mayer also contributed five catches for 53 yards, giving Cousins another reliable option.
For Kubiak, however, Bowers’ production has become almost routine. His latest performance offered another reminder that the Raiders have a player capable of changing games whenever the ball comes his way.
