In historic fashion, the Winnipeg Jets losing streak finally came to an end on Tuesday night.
Down 4-0 to the Montreal Canadiens with less than three minutes to play, the Jets scored four goals in just two minutes and six seconds to tie the game and then Dylan Samberg scored his second of the season with 1:30 left in overtime to give Winnipeg a thrilling 5-4 comeback victory.
It was latest four-goal comeback win in NHL history. It was also the fastest four goals in Jets franchise history to put the brakes on a nine-game losing skid.
“What a way to end a streak that we were on there,” said Jets forward Kyle Connor. “It seemed like it was coming. I think we just came into today with such a good attitude and tried to live in the present and even manufacture some kind of positive and jump even if it wasn’t there.
“We’re gonna enjoy this one. You got to enjoy the wins in the National Hockey League, especially when we’re on a streak like that and we’re gonna try to use this to catapult us.”
Connor scored two goals only 27 seconds apart in the final minute to tie the game.

The victory ended the Canadiens five-game win streak.
The Jets went 128 straight minutes without scoring a goal, while getting outscored 13-0 before the late game five-goal outburst.
“We played hard tonight,” said Jets head coach Scott Arniel. “I thought we did a lot of really good things for three periods. We talked about defending our way out of this and I thought we did that. When we didn’t have the puck, we worked to get it back. We had 86 shot attempts tonight.
“Just the resiliency of our group to stay in it and just find a way. We needed something to happen, some kind of crazy thing to happen.
“It’s amazing. That felt like a playoff win in there.”
The Jets had a season-high 47 shots on goal as they outshot the Canadiens in all three periods and in overtime.
Morgan Barron and Tyrel Bauer also scored for Winnipeg. Bauer had his first career NHL goal and also had an assist and a fight for the Gordie Howe hat trick.
“I don’t know if I’ve wanted to win a hockey game more in my life,” said Bauer. “KC coming up with a couple late and then watching that. I had the perfect angle from the bench.
“Listen, that’s a long stretch. That’s a long hard stretch but this group believed in each other.”
With the game all but done, Winnipeg started their improbable comeback down four goals with 2:39 left when Bauer sniped his first career goal past Montreal goalie Jacob Fowler, who had been brilliant up until that point.
And then 42 seconds later, it was Barron’s turn to score, and the Jets had a pulse.
Then the Jets sniper came to play as Connor ripped home two goals in 27 seconds, including one on the powerplay with 33 seconds left, and Winnipeg miraculously forced overtime, where Samberg completed the comeback with his second of the season
Connor’s pair now gives him 13 goals on the season. Winnipeg outshot Montreal 47-22 on the night.
Cole Caufield scored twice in a losing cause, while Josh Anderson and Owen Beck also found the back of the net.
The Jets now come home and will take on the last-place team in the NHL on Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks, with puck drop just after 7 p.m.
